One of Matt's professors suspects that he is on drugs. Jennifer sleeps with Craig. Michael steals an idea for a cauterizing glove from Brett. Megan confronts Lexi and quits her job. Jo hires an Englishwoman named Emily Baldwin as her son's nanny. Michael suggests that he and Jane elope. Amanda says that Alison is in love with Billy, and taunts her for being gutless. Kyle, Eve and Peter separately accuse Amanda of being a tyrant. Ryan learns Sarah's whereabouts and sends her to the beach house to stay with Kyle.

Megan and Brett get engaged. Amanda fires Ryan because she suspects that he leaked information to Lexi's agency.

He convinces Jo to face her guilt head on, and she visits Reed's grave site to offer her forgiveness. He is stung when she tells him to back off. Peter reveals to Syd that his concern for Kimberly stems from memories of a deceased sister who suffered a similar plight. A financially strapped Brooke is thrown out of her hotel room. Her constant drinking and carousing creates friction in their already-strained relationship. They argue about everything. Alison sleeps with Hayley. He purposely drives her away, and also alienates Lexi with his bizarre behavior. He is interrupted by Michael, who treats Taylor at his clinic. He finally tells her that he is not interested and proposes to Megan. Jennifer reveals her affair with Billy to Jeff and convinces him to tell Samantha. Billy is saddled with bad credit because he has yet to pay off a college loan that he didn't even need. Michael cuts off Megan's relationship with her clients. Lexi does not tell Amanda about the kidnapping because she doesn't want Peter to go to prison. Travis tries to blackmail Eve into sleeping with him, but Kyle pummels him and orders him to leave town. They leave "Christine"'s body on the train tracks, and Kyle and Amanda arrive in time to see her hit by the train. Larner's wife tells Megan that her husband is influential, and that Brett is being asked to choose between the job and Megan. Amanda is wracked with guilt, and pushes Kyle away.

She tries to drink away her sorrow, and finds comfort with Michael. Although Michael warns her to keep quiet, Taylor comes clean after Kyle threatens to break up with her. Jane and Michael prepare for parenthood, only to find that Taylor has left with Michael Jr. He is unable to call it off, and Amanda is kidnapped. Michael asks Peter to recommend him for chief-of-staff, but Peter decides to apply for the job.
Amanda sues Michael for the roof damages, tries to fire Ryan and Jane, and blames Lexi for everything. Kimberly confronts Peter about his alliance with Michael, and he expresses a romantic interest in her. Jane tells Jake about the rape in the hopes that he will kill Richard. Matt promises Nikki a Christmas party. Dan suggests that he and Matt slow down their relationship.

Alison gets drunk at a client party and leaves with a hard-living music business scout named Zack Phillips. Richard torments Jane's conscience by leaving clues about the murder around her home and office. Taylor decides to donate one of Samantha's paintings to a charity auction. Michael blurts out that Sydney was responsible for Jane's stroke. Jake and Rhonda convince Matt to seek legal recourse. Jennifer arranges a reconciliation between the two. A mysterious aspiring photographer named Jo Reynolds moves into the building. A distraught Megan throws herself at Michael, then vanishes after he rejects her. Jane discovers that she is pregnant, but doesn't tell Kyle.
